With the start of the school year, I thought to take this opportunity to highlight one of Pomona’s core ingredients for student success: the role of faculty in our students’ lives. Faculty advising and interacting with faculty in both formal and informal ways are an integral part of students’ lives at Pomona. Whether your student is a first year, sophomore, junior, or senior, their conversations and connections with faculty are integral to their educational experiences here, and these relationships. This is a two-way street, and even as we ask faculty to reach out to students, we also ask students to reach out to their faculty advisors and instructors. In the Dean of Students office, our new Associate Dean for Student Academic Success and Assessment, Hector Sambolin, Jr., will work closely with students and faculty to support students’ academic success inside and outside the classroom.
